Term 3 in Performing Arts promises to be an exciting time, with a few events lined up for your interest. Firstly, on 10 August some of our older students are performing a variety of contemporary songs as part of the AISHK’s Summer Soiree, here at school at 6:30pm. More information can be found out about this in other pages in Dhanara.
We are also looking forward to our Primary Recitals that take place from 20 August until the 22 August. These are always very popular with our young musicians with many entrants from all of our year groups for Prep to Year 6. There will be a huge display of our talented students with an equally wide range of instruments. There is still time to register to perform at these, information can be found in the notices section of the AISHK app. Following this, on the Friday 30 August at 3:30pm in the Auditorium, you will be able to see some of our senior musicians perform in preparation for their HSC and IB examinations. The term ends with our amazing Early Childhood Production of “Stella the Starfish” in Week 8, more details about this will follow in due course. We hope there is something that you can find to enjoy amongst the many events that we are trying to feature from the Performing Arts department this term.
Our instrumental lessons have already started this term, please can I just remind parents and students to check the instrumental schedules as sent out by Ms Daphne and just be aware that updates do happen from time to time to accommodate changes where necessary. Some of our teachers have been looking at ABRSM and Rock School style instrumental examinations, these are exams, similar to AMEB music exams, available in Hong Kong. If you are interested in the possibility of your child undertaking one of these exams, please feel free to talk to me about this. We find that they are useful in helping a child progress with learning new repertoire whilst also developing technique as well as other musicianship skills such as sight reading and aural tests. The exams are recognized internationally and available for all grades from beginner in the no-failure prep test to the advanced grade 8 or even diploma standard.
As ever, we encourage AISHK students to join our musical ensembles, which range from Guitar Ensemble, to Orchestra, Wind Band and our school choirs. We also encourage our instrumentalists to engage in regular practice in order to maintain and progress their skills
I look forward once again, to seeing you at one of our events.
