We made it!
It feels like only yesterday we were writing our Welcome to Prep letter and here we are at the end of Term 1! What an amazing term we have had. Every child has settled into AISHK and is working hard on their learning journey. We have been swimming, learning Chinese, experienced Assembly, taken readers home, celebrated our families and learnt to write sentences. It has been wonderful to watch the children grow in confidence and independence.
Over the holidays please encourage your child to continue being independent with their belongings, with dressing themselves and independently learning.
Thank you to those parents who were able to make it to our Prep Picnic. A wonderful time was had by all.
Speaking and Listening
Our Speaking and Listening roster will stay the same for Term 2, however, the topics will align with our new Unit of Inquiry. Please remind your child which day they will be presenting and help them prepare. The roster will start up again in week 2 of Term 2. You will be notified about the topics in week 1 of Term 2.
Literacy
We are continuing with the focus on sound patterns and rhyme. The students have enjoyed listening to a range of rhyming stories and creating their own sound patterns. To support this learning at home we encourage you to identify the words that rhyme when singing nursery rhymes or when you are reading books. Numeracy
We are now focussing on an introduction to addition. As children begin to learn about addition it is important that they know what it means: addition is joining groups of things together. We can use numbers to represent this. It is helpful if parents can model the concept of addition in everyday life. For example; at the supermarket we need 3 apples and 4 bananas. How many things did we get?
HASS
We have been focusing on celebrations and what each family celebrates. It is great for the children to hear different perspectives about what families value. These include birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Chinese New Year, Australia Day, Valentine’s day, Diwali, Halloween and St Andrew’s Day.
