In hopes to raise awareness for sustainable healthcare in developing countries this year, YES Club has chosen to partake in Friends Without A Border (FWAB) Hong Kong 2nd Annual Gala 2018. Founded by world-renowned Japanese photographer Kenro Izu, the project was developed when Izu witnessed malnourished and disabled children during his travels in Cambodia, the turning point being when a young girl passed away simply because her father could not afford $2 for medical care.
Three years later in 1996, Izu founded ‘Friends’ with the mission to provide compassionate medical care to children in Southeast Asia. After years of planning and gathering support from donors, photographers, and friends around the world, Friends opened Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Since that time, AHC has treated over 1.7 million children, trained thousands of healthcare professionals, and is considered “one of only three essential healthcare institutions” in the entire country as stated by a Cambodian Health Minister.
At FWAB, the model of “Treatment + Education + Prevention” is implemented by:
- Providing high-quality medical care to children in a compassionate environment;
- Providing continuing education to health care professionals throughout Southeast Asia and stimulating research to develop sound health care practices;
- Improving the health, nutrition and hygiene of local communities through outreach programs and homecare.
This year on the 25th of October, YES Club aims to facilitate this model by participating in a FWAB Gala Dinner running in the evening after school, wherein the money raised will be put forward to further help the charity. This not only creates intentions of gratitude and awareness, but also provides an outstanding opportunity for those who wish to actively make a difference to those in need. If you would like to volunteer to assist at this event, please contact Head of Community Servrice, Mr Paul McGunngle: email@example.com
