With the end of Term 3 fast approaching, we should take moment to reflect on how far the students of Year One have come. The students continue to reflect the AISHK value star principals, and most importantly are kind and caring towards each other. They display positive attitudes towards their learning as well as show how courageous they are when faced with challenges in their school work.
Literacy.
We have inquired into the features of informative and imaginative texts, we now have moved into understanding persuasive texts. We have explored the terms of ‘convince me’, ‘what is fact’ and ‘what is opinion’. It has been fun to watch the students discuss and develop the art of persuasion!
Phonics: Long U sounds.
We continue to explore and find out ways how ‘long u’ can be written in different ways and have begun a new set of camera words.

Mathematics.
In Mathematics we have been investigating subtraction and money. For subtraction the students were asked to find out how many days it would take Freddo the Frog to get out of the Well, for every three meters he would slide back down one meter. There was lots of discussion generated as well as innovative ways to solve the problem.
The students are exploring both Australian and Hong Kong money. They are learning to recognise the features of coins and understand the value of each coin. As a great way to support your child in learning about coins, encourage them at home to identify the coins and challenge them to make up values using different coins!
Integrated Studies
Students continue to explore scientific methods to conduct experiments and record observations. They have now had the opportunity to cook, observe and record the changes that occur with bread, butter, popcorn and honeycomb.
Wet-weather dismissal
Parents and/or helpers will need to enter from the Sports Terrace on Norfolk Road. The doors will be opened from 2.40. Parents and/or helpers for early childhood will need to collect their child from their teacher’s classroom (1B- Rm408, 1M- Rm410, 1T Rm411, 1S- Rm412). To exit the parents and helpers will need to leave via the main entrance of the school.
Father’s Day Active Morning
On Tuesday 4 September, a special morning was held. It was a huge success with lots of fathers demonstrating their agility and sports skills. The students had a great time.
