Dear Parents, welcome to another edition of the Year 2 Newsletter.
Yet another busy fortnight it has been. The classes have enjoyed hearing their fellow peers share their knowledge about Life Cycles and even recite some famous old poems during their Speaking and Listening tasks. It has been wonderful to see the students put in time and effort into both these areas and we thank you for your support. The students have been reminded that they need to bring in their Reading Challenge record sheet on a Monday. The Library staff need to sight the recorded hours in order to give out prizes accordingly. Can we please ask that you just initial the time slot after you have recorded it. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2 Assembly
The students have been busy researching like little Scientists and have discovered a lot of interesting facts about the Human Body. We have had a chance to get together as a Year level to rehearse for the up and coming assembly in Week 5. It is looking very exciting so please keep Friday 24 free to attend the assembly. Assembly will start at 8:30am.
Early Childhood Music Recital
Another exciting showcase is the school’s annual music recital. As the numbers are so high in Year 2 they will be performing their pieces on Wednesday 22 at 1:00pm which is a separate time for Prep and Year 1 (Prep and 1 will 10:30 – 11:40am). We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible to show your support. It is so rewarding to see what talented students we have in Year 2.
Book Week
As in years gone by, Book Week (Week 6) is a highlight of the year. In the lead-up to this special week, during Library lessons, we have been reading the shortlisted Children’s Book Council Award books and Year 2 students have been reflecting on the texts read.
The week itself is themed “Find Your Treasure” but is in no way limited to pirates! There will be no formal Library sessions that week. On Monday 27 August, Year 2 will have a fun book quiz in the Library so all their knowledge and memory of their reading will be helpful for their team. On Friday 31st August, the boys and girls may dress up as their favourite book character or dress up in the theme. At 8:30am, all Prep-Year 6 will parade on field to show off their creative costumes! Please note there is no Early Childhood assembly that day. The Primary assembly for Years 3-6 will commence at 9am.
In addition, on that Friday, the Library is hosting a Book Fair in conjunction with Kidnapped Book Store in Sai Kung. All students will be given the opportunity to visit and purchase a book of their choice should they wish to do so. The books will range from $100-$300 and any purchase over $100 will receive a 10% discount to use on the day. If you would like your child to participate, please discuss your expectations in regard to book choice and the spending amount as appropriate. A note will come home closer to the date with further details.
The Book Fair will be open from 8am-3:30pm should you wish to come and have a browse too, we’d love to see you in the Library.
