Head of Primary Message

It is an absolute pleasure to be writing my first message to the AISHK community as the Head of Primary. My first two weeks in the new role have gone very quickly as I have spent the time getting to know the school and the people in it. Students, parents and teachers have been incredibly welcoming and seeing everyone walk around with a smile on their face shows how happy, comfortable and safe people are at AISHK. I have had the opportunity to visit every homeroom class in the first week and introduce myself. I asked the students what makes AISHK a great school and I got many answers that included the teachers, the friendly atmosphere, the learning, the different opportunities provided and great facilities. I can see that the students are very proud of our school.

I have been impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the teachers and visiting classrooms has given me a glimpse of the high quality teaching and learning that takes place. There is a strong sense of focusing on the ‘whole’ child with regards to both their social and academic learning, an approach all good schools are taking to ensuring students can reach their potential. I can really see how well the secondary and primary divisions are working together to create one school to offer an international education with Australian culture and values. Having worked in Hong Kong for the last 10 years and having had exposure to many different international schools, I see what great facilities and opportunities are available to the students at AISHK. I have also joined the school as a parent and I have been amazed how quickly my daughter has settled into the school and made friends. She tells me that ‘everyone is really friendly’ and I have certainly witnessed that myself.

Thank you to everyone for a very warm welcome to AISHK. If you have not already done so, please come and introduce yourself to me. The school has organised coffee mornings giving me the opportunity to meet the parents of the primary division. I hope to see many of you of there. I am looking forward to getting to know the families of AISHK.
