Madame Tussauds
On Monday 23 May we are off on an adventure “Up The Peak” to visit Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. The purpose of this trip is to “pique” our interest in our Integrated Studies unit for the term and to try and answer the question ‘What is greatness?’ This provocation will help us as we begin our adventure into the wonderful world of Images of Greatness. Thank you to those parents who have already volunteered and if you would still like to join us, it’s not too late!
For this excursion students need to wear their PE (white) kit and bring their lunch, a snack and a water bottle in their sports bag. All students MUST have their hat!
Photo Schedule Dates:
Some photos from last term, needed to be rescheduled to this term. The following photos will be taken on Tuesday 24th April. It would be a good idea to bring in blazers, just in case they are required, and boys MUST wear their ties with their shirts on this day.
• House Photos
• Head and Deputy Head Girl and Boy
• House Leaders
• Whole School
Summer is on its way!
The sun has certainly not gone to bed and is wide awake!! This week, we have reminded the Year 6 students about the importance of wearing a hat whenever they are out playing. As the hot weather continues, a roll-on deodorant is also an ideal addition to any locker. A water bottle is also an essential item to bring to school to keep hydrated, alert and be ready to learn.
Executive Functioning with Ms Vujanovic
This Term, Year 6 will have the privilege of working with Ms V from the LEC on a program designed to teach us about Executive Functioning. Executive function is the set of mental processes that help us plan, organise, strategise, pay attention to details, remember instructions and manage time. During the term students will be taught strategies and skills to strengthen executive functioning skills in order to promote success both in and outside the classroom as they transition into Secondary School.
Students will learn and practise strategies to start work right away, manage their time better, develop better self-control, and to work through problems until they reach their goal. Executive functioning skills include:
• Organisation
• Time management
• Task initiation
• Working memory
• Metacognition
• Self-control
• Sustained attention
• Flexibility
• Perseverance
Peer Support Training Day
What a sensational day of fun and learning we had on Thursday at Peer Support Training Day. It was a brilliant opportunity for us to learn about ourselves as leaders and channel our inner character strengths to identify all the positive ways we will be able to lead and support our Peer Support Groups during Term 2.
Our day began with Mr Shirley reminding the students of the importance of the Peer Support Program; where every Wednesday for 40 minutes, each Year 6 student will have a small group of students from Prep to Year 5 and lead them in a fun, hands on lesson revolving around healthy lifestyles.
We were very fortunate to have Mr Hemphill and Mr Shirley speak to us at the start of our day. They both highlighted the important of the Peer Support Program in our school and how we as Year 6 students play a pivotal role not only as the leaders of our groups in Term 2 but as role models across the whole Primary Division throughout the year.
Our middle session was a very powerful and inspiring “Fireside Chat” with some mums and dads from Year 6 who are leaders in their chosen fields. It was a thought provoking session where we were able to ask a range of questions to gain greater insight into what it takes to be a great leader and how each of us can meet our full potential as leaders.
We rounded out the day with a fantastic fashion show, with fashions created using sustainable resources. The catwalk display of the fashions met with rapturous applause and oohs and aahs of wonder at the creative designs. Look out Paris Fashion Week here we come!
We are all very excited for the coming term and putting our leadership skills into action as we embark on our Peer Support Journey.
