Outdoor Education

Outdoor education is an important part of the learning program here at AISHK. It provides an alternative setting for our students to develop and demonstrate the school’s values and it helps them to work on their own character strengths, teamwork, leadership and engagement.

This week I had the opportunity to visit the Year 5 students on their camp at Treasure Island. I was pleased to see how well the camp groups were working together as teams, the genuine care the students showed towards their peers, and the very high level of engagement the students demonstrated while participating in the activities. The highlight of my visit was the feedback I received upon arrival from the camp organisers, and throughout the day from the group instructors, on how lucky AISHK is to have such an excellent group of girls and boys as part of their student body.

On this camp, the students got to experience several outdoors activities that included canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, raft building, screen printing and environmental awareness activities. These experiences are designed to deliver either a personal or team challenge and the feedback from the students has been amazing. I would also like to thank the Year 5 teaching team. The level of care they have provided to all students while on camp has been first rate. The Latin phrase in loco parentis, in place of the parent, could not be truer.
