Being Mindful and Kindful

14 February 2018 Brigitte McNamara Year 4 News 0

It has been wonderful receiving many of the assigned learning activities from students over the past couple of days. Students are progressively showing a greater sense of independence and taking ownership of their learning. We are especially impressed by the examples of forces they have been able to identify at home. Students have sent through photos, PowerPoint slides and even videos explaining the different types of forces and whether they are harmful or helpful.

Isaac McGoldrick (4Y) created a PowerPoint slide to show examples of harmful and helpful forces
Shannon Murphy (4M) is working against gravity to pull himself up
“This force is harmful because it can easily make things fall or break things and friction makes it stop”. By Marcus Chan (4M)

“This is a pushing and pulling force. This is helpful because you can have fun.” By Thomas Ambrens Barnes (4K)

Being Mindful and Kindful

In our weekly mindfulness sessions with Ms Meg, we have been learning about how to send kindful messages to our friends and family by being mindful of our thoughts and actions. These sessions do not take much time or effort, just a little bit of patience and practice. Students are beginning to understand the benefits and importance of self-compassion. During the school term, we can get caught up in our busy schedules and often forget to pause and reflect. With another week until students return to school, this is the perfect opportunity to practice some mindfulness at home. Here are some thoughts students can focus on while practising mindfulness:

  • May we be happy
  • May we be healthy
  • May we be safe
  • May we be peaceful
