Welcome to this fortnight’s Newsletter. We hope that you all enjoyed the Chinese New Year Break and stayed away from the dreaded flu. It has been wonderful to see all the students back in class, to hear about their CNY adventures and to get classroom routines back on track.
We would like to acknowledge the time and passion that the students put into the home activities which were set for them during the unfortunate closure of the school. It was rewarding to see them apply their newly learnt knowledge to complete the tasks. Thank you for assisting us with this in the home.
Year 2 Assembly
It was great to see many parent’s faces at the Year 2 Assembly and to hear the children read as a group. The book chosen to focus on was the wonderful picture book – ‘Whoever You Are’ by Mem Fox. The theme of the assembly was tied in to our Integrated Studies topic of ‘Identity’ where the students have looked at how we are all connected to different parts of the world. We hope that you are able to discuss with your child the importance of their identity and to learn more about where they were born and how they are now connected to Hong Kong. The children are very fortunate to be in such culturally diverse classrooms here in Hong Kong and we look forward to continuing to foster their curiosity and furthering their investigations in class.
Parent Teacher Interviews
As you will all be aware, the timetable for booking to see your child’s class teacher is now closed. If you were unable to book in a time, please contact your teacher via email to arrange a suitable time during the two weeks.
The purpose of parent teacher interviews is:
- To get to know you and to build a relationship with your child’s class teacher.
- To find out how your child is settling in to their new learning environment.
- To find out what type of learning is going on in the classroom in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Integrated Studies.
- To find out ways you can support your child at home.
As teachers are still assessing and learning about your child’s ability, we kindly ask that this session is not a verbal report on how your child is going academically. We will discuss with you, observations we have made of their learning and possible next steps for your child. This in turn should be evident in the Semester 1 Report which will be sent home in Term 2.
We look forward to meeting with you during your time.
School swimming starts on Monday 5 March (Week 7) and will run through till 11 May. A letter would have come home in your child’s diary today (Friday 23 February) with some information and a checklist for you to fill out so that the instructors can group the children accordingly.
In the lead up to Week 7 can you please make sure that your child has the following items:
- swimming cap
- school bathers
- sports/PE bag
Thank you in advance.
Just a quick reminder about Homework. It is given out on a Friday and is to be returned on a Thursday. Please remind your child to be a self-manager and to space out their tasks so that they do not try to fit it all into one night. Enjoy reading with and to your child every night if possible.
Eucalypt Mufti Day
A note would’ve come home in your child’s diary regarding the up and coming Eucalypt Mufti Day. The children have the opportunity of purchasing a hotdog for their lunch that day. Please see below for more information and the return slip if you need a spare one.
