In a flourish of colour and conviviality, our 2018 Welcome BBQ came and went.
All AISHK families were welcomed to our school’s first event of the year – a great opportunity to mingle with friends old and new. We were honoured to welcome special guests, Australian Consul General, Ms Michaela Browning, Deputy Consul General Mr Ken Gordon, Qantas Airways General Manager (HK), Mr Wyn Li and AISFL Board Governor, Mr Andrew Macintosh.
The reasons to celebrate were many this year. Falling on Australia Day, Friday 26 January, the event made for a very warm welcome to our new Head of School, Mr Mark Hemphill. The Welcome BBQ also marked our School’s 23rd Birthday, with the Secondary Vocal Ensemble leading the community in a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday.
Drawing on traditional Chinese customs, a Lion Dance and a roasted pig ceremony were an important and exciting aspect of our event and a nod to upcoming Lunar New Year of The Dog.
Thanks must go to all parents, staff, students and Alumni who came together on this occasion, and all attendees for contributing in many ways to ensure this event’s success and a wonderful start to the new school year.
A Message From our Event Sponsor Qantas Airlines:
For the fourth year in a row, Qantas has been ranked the world’s safest airline by AirlineRatings.com.
Most recently, Qantas has released its latest inflight safety video featuring everyday Australians sharing the Aussie spirit with locals in some of the airline’s destinations around the world.
Playing cricket on a rooftop in Tokyo, riding in the front seat of a taxi in New York, indulging in a “Tim Tam Slam” in Johannesburg and tone-deaf barracking for the Wallabies in the heart of All Blacks territory in Auckland are some of the ‘Australian-isms abroad’ featured alongside safety instructions for travelling on Qantas aircraft.
The new video will begin screening across Qantas domestic and international flights from April.
