It has been another busy term with many exciting learning experiences. The students have participated in spelling and reading challenges, explored what lies beneath their feet through earth sciences and looked at how authors position the reader through various techniques. In Mathematics they have learnt about budgeting and cooking, how to measure the volume of regular objects and how to map out timelines and organise data for a movie marathon.
Our last day of school is this Friday and students can wear mufti clothing for a donation of $20 which will go towards one of the school supported charities. There will be an assembly at 11am in the auditorium before students are dismissed at 12pm. Students will bring home their portfolios this term for you to discuss how their learning journey has progressed. Please remind them to bring their portfolios back to school at the beginning of Term 4.
Middle Years Speech Competition
Congratulations to all the students who made it into the year level final in Week 8: Domenico Cocco, Gemma Hoang, Sienna McCarthy, Jerome Ow, Eunie Jeong, Kylie Roberts, Emma Tohill, Alexander Camilleri, Mia Gollogley, Ned Collis, Remi Apostolopoulos, Sarah Broderick and Olivia Bennett. These students presented some very persuasive and engaging speeches. There were four finalists chosen to compete in the Middle Years Speech Competition on Monday 18 September. Gemma Hoang was first up with her speech that tried to convince us that technology is making us lazy. Sienna McCarthy’s speech about relaxion being important in our daily lives gained her a highly commended award. Domenico Cocco was the overall Year 4 winner with his entertaining speech encouraging us to recognise the importance of parent play. The overall winner of the competition was Jerome Ow who spoke about nanotechnology with conviction.
There are many students in Year Four who have expressed interest in creating a student run newspaper. Next term we will have a lunchtime club for students who wish to write feature articles or comics that we will collate into a fortnightly newsletter. We will be sharing this with the parent community as well as the Year Four student community. Eunie Jeong in 4Y has already created an interview with a volcano which will feature in our first edition next term. We look forward to seeing what the students create.
