As Term 3 draws to an end it always nice to sit back and reflect on the exciting things the prep children have been a part of this term. We’ve celebrated Book Week, Father’s Day, Chinese Week and our first excursion to Dim Sum. To conclude the term all prep children will be attending the valedictory assembly next Wednesday 20 September. This is a beautiful moment where some of youngest students in the school farewell the oldest. It’s a wonderful time for the year 12’s to reflect on where their journey started.
Don’t forget school concludes for Term 3 next Friday 22 September. Assembly will start at 11:00am. Children will need to bring their recess but no lunch as we will finish school at 12:00pm. It is also Mufti Day for all house colours for a $20 donation.
Chinese Week and Dim Sum Excursion
Last Thursday the children experienced their first excursion when we visited a Dim Sum restaurant in Mong Kok. Getting 97 children onto buses, crossing roads and into a restaurant was never going to be an easy feat but it went smoothly due to our fantastic parent helpers. The children had a wonderful time experiencing different food and drinking Chinese tea. They all made sure they tried all the food and persisted with using their chopsticks. Thank you again to those parents that were able to volunteer their time for both the Chinese shopping day and our Dim Sum excursion. It was a wonderful experience and a memory I’m sure the children will remember.
Animal Rumble Grumble
It’s not long now until the Early Childhood Pantomime, Animal Rumble Grumble. The children have been busy practicing their song and have been measured up for their costumes. Thank you to our prep parent reps who have been busy sourcing costumes and measuring the children so they can arrive ready for next term. Tickets will be available soon and you will receive an email with instructions on how to book them.
Student leave forms
Just a reminder that if you are planning on leaving for holidays early could you please ensure you fill out the student leave information form and give it to your classroom teacher in advance.
The Year One Reading Club has been a successful support program for students at AISHK for more than ten years. The program aims to improve the reading confidence and skills of Year One students. The Literacy Intervention Specialist implements the program in collaboration with the Early Years Support Assistant and parent volunteers. The Reading Club runs daily from 8:00-9:45am in the Learning Enrichment Centre.
As we approach the end of the year, students from Year Two and Prep may also be invited to attend a Literacy lessons in this time.
We are currently looking for parent volunteers to support the program in term four 2017. An induction session for volunteer parents will be organised at the beginning of term four for interested parents.
Consistency and routine are contributing factors to the success of the program so we are asking that parents commit to one to five days a week. If you are interested in supporting the Reading Club or Literacy lessons, please contact Indica Herbert, Literacy Intervention Specialist.
