It is not often we experience typhoons in Hong Kong but two massive storms in five days gave our Prep students plenty to talk and write about this week! We hope all our families stayed safe and enjoyed the compulsory rest time while stuck indoors!
We are sure you will all agree that our students looked fabulous dressed as their favourite book characters last Friday. Students thoroughly enjoyed parading their efforts and costumes around the field and during our Book Week assembly. A big thank you to parents for your support with the student’s costumes and reading challenges. This is the final week for our reading challenges and minutes to be recorded.
Next week is our time to celebrate Chinese culture through many wonderful events and experiences, commencing on Monday with a professional dragon dance performance.
Tuesday is our Chinese Shopping Day. Students will be able to purchase small toys and stationery from our native Chinese speaking parents and it is a wonderful opportunity to practice the Chinese language learnt in class. Should you wish your child to participate in our shopping day, please send $40-$50 into school on Tuesday in a named zip lock bag for your child to spend.
This Thursday is our excursion to a Dim Sum restaurant for lunch. Students will experience a delicious dim sum lunch and learn more about Chinese cuisine and style of eating. You should have received a newsletter today via email and your child’s home folder. You do not have to return a permission form as you signed one at the beginning of the school year. If you would like to volunteer please send back the slip at the bottom of the form asap. Each class will require 5 parent helpers, however, if we have more than 5 parents who would like to join us each class will randomly select their parents to make it fair.
Next Friday will mark the end of Chinese week and culminate in a special Chinese assembly. Assembly will start at 10:45am. Students may wear traditional Chinese dress to school. If your child does not wish to participate, they must wear their normal school uniform.
Red and Golden Words
A friendly reminder to keep practicing the red and golden words at home from Semester One. These words make up a considerable portion of words students read at this level and it is important that students are fluent in reading and spelling these words.
Happy Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day to all our wonderful dads! If you can attend the Parent Association Father’s Day BBQ tonight we hope you have a fabulous time with the children. Most of all, enjoy Father’s Day this Sunday and be sure to expect our Prep students to celebrate and look after you!
