Dear AISHK Community,
On behalf of the AISFL Board of Governors, I am delighted to announce that Mr Mark Hemphill has been appointed as the 8th Head of School of AISHK.
Passionate about education, Mark has led Knox Grammar Preparatory School in Sydney for the past seven years. Prior to Knox, Mark led the Middle School at Zurich International School in Switzerland and was the Foundation Middle School Principal at Moriah College in Sydney, having begun his career as a secondary school teacher. His Australian and international experience has seen Mark appointed as one of twelve Australian principals selected to mentor new principals. In 2012 Mark received a NSW Parents’ Council Principal’s Excellence Award for Parent Engagement, for which he had been nominated by Knox parents. Mark has been a key leader in the development of the world leading school-wide Positive Education program at Knox, and he has been involved in introducing a nationally recognised coaching and mentoring system for staff development.
The happiness of the students, teachers and parents is of paramount importance to Mark and he seeks to promote a strong sense of collaboration and community. He is committed to leading a school which both promotes academic excellence and provides students with an all-round, well-balanced education, as AISHK does. In particular, he has a strong belief that a leader’s success is determined by the relationships he builds with those around him, with a successful school being built on strong relationships.
In announcing this important decision for our School’s future, I wish to advise that the Search Committee, and highly respected expert educational consultant, Dr Bill McKeith AM, met with a number of extremely professional educators with strong credentials from around the world. What impressed the Board, besides impeccable academic credentials and experience, was Mark’s record of community building.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr David Shirley and Mr Howard West for their continuing, committed stewardship of the Primary and Secondary divisions respectively. I’d like to also thank the staff and parent community for their invaluable input to the selection process.
We are in the process of arranging a welcome visit for Mark, and his wife Barbara, later this year in advance of him taking up his post in January 2018.
