The Youths Experiencing Service (YES) Club under the expert guidance of Year 10 students – Kenji Look and Meldrick Ho and Year 9 student – Hayden Young has been going from strength to strength this semester. The YES Club leaders have divided their responsibilities; Kenji dealing with external liaison and communications, Meldrick taking on Human Resource Management and Hayden using his outstanding artistic skills to help promote and market the YES Club.
During Term 2, its members collaborated with Kids4Kids in the annual donation event known as Sharing for a Cause (SFAC). This year throughout the month of May, the theme was the donation of English story books and children’s books, with the stated aim to help alleviate the issue of illiteracy for underprivileged children in Hong Kong. Many of these books will go towards Kids4Kids own Buddy Reading Program as well as Crossroads, another NGO in Hong Kong.
Throughout the month, the students collected a variety of books ranging from novels, story books, picture books and comics. In all, a fantastic 1,301 books were donated to the school. As the organisers of the Book Drive, the YES Club members sorted the books according to size and type, to keep the boxes relatively
themed. The YES Club leaders would like to thank 5 volunteers from Year 9 – Petah Mallios, Ocean Hartnett, Krnsa Hemlani, Kylie Lau and Madeleine Dudman – for their efforts in helping to sort the books into themes.
Thanks to all the parents, students and teachers who donated to this worthy cause and a very special thanks to Kids4Kids and Kerry Logistics for sponsoring the entire event. Kenji, Meldrick and Hayden would also like to publicly acknowledge the kindness of the Phillis family who donated over 100 books for this wonderful cause.
