Last Thursday 20 April to Saturday 22 April, AISHK hosted the yearly ACAMIS soccer tournament. This competition is held once a year and is a very intense three days of soccer for everyone involved. This year we had teams from International School Beijing, Shanghai Community International School, Yew Chung International School (Shanghai), Nanjing International School, International School Tianjin and of course AISHK attend this tournament.
The girls had an outstanding tournament going through to the semi-final stages in 1st place after the pool games after some very close games. The girls then won their semi-final and come up against IST in the final. The girls then won the final 2-0 with goals to Phoebe Coogans and Pamela Murphy. This was a fitting reward for the girls after years of trying to win this tournament. Special mention to the two Year 12 students, Niamh Davies and Caitlin Rawiller who were playing their very last tournament for AISHK. What a way to go out as champions. Coach, Mr McGunnigle was rewarded for years of perseverance with these ladies.
The boys came up against some very tough teams and progressed through to 5th v 6th playoff where they managed a very creditable 6th. Most of these students were once again Year 12 students and they have been playing together for many years. We hope that they continue their soccer after their time at AISHK. Special thanks to Mr Nelson who coached this team.
This tournament wouldn’t be the success it is without the support of the AISHK community. Thank you to all of the host families that billeted the visiting students for us. The students appreciated everyone that turned up to cheer them on especially on Saturday in the playoff games. Finally a massive thanks to the 24 boys and girls that represented AISHK in their normal outstanding conduct both on and off the field.
