From 17-19 March, AISHK co-hosted one of the ACAMIS organisation’s most anticipated annual events, the 2017 ACAMIS Badminton Championships. Twenty schools from China and Hong Kong competed over three days, sending shuttlecocks flying at relentless speeds despite the significant physical demands of the tournament schedule. AISHK was deftly represented by Henry Loui in Boys’ Singles, Allison Poon in Girls’ Singles, Caleb Chow and Ho On Tam in Boys’ Doubles, Sapphira Choi and Kristy Fong in Girls’ Doubles, and Arnold Kam and team captain Christy Yeung in the always vital Mixed Doubles. The team format sees schools compete against each other over best-of-five rubbers, with the top eight schools progressing to the Cup Competition quarter-finals on the last day. AISHK has a long and proud record in this tournament, but this was the first time in our shuttling history that our players made the coveted “Elite 8” after the round robin stage. While we bowed out in the quarter finals to a very strong opponent, the overall efforts and sportsmanship of all players must be highly commended. In particular we pay tribute to departing Year 12 girls Sapphira, Kristy and Christy who have been stalwarts of AISHK badminton for many years and here played their last representative matches for the school.
