Library News

The Secondary Library will be closed next week due to Secondary Activity Week as there will be no secondary students in the school. This means that Library Assistants will close the library at 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 4:00pm on Friday.

Primary parents are kindly reminded that the Primary Library usually closes daily at 4:00pm unless students are accompanied by their parents. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide child minding facilities for Primary students after school – especially for our Early Childhood students. This also includes Primary Parent Teacher evenings.

In the last week of term from 27 March, the Secondary Library will be open again until 5:30pm.

We look forward to Leigh Hobbs visiting our Primary Library next Monday. Leigh is a highly regarded Australian author and artist. These types of visits are always an exciting and educationally rewarding time. Our Primary students are very excited that he is visiting them and our Primary Library lessons have been focussing on him for the last few weeks. Next week we will report on his visit.

Library Online Subscription Databases

Our Primary and Secondary Teacher Librarians have been busy promoting some of our Online Subscription Databases when applicable to our students. We encourage you to also utilise these valuable resources with your children.

  1. Brain Pop – This is a great educational database used throughout both Primary and Secondary School. It contains 1000’s of short animations that help explain many concepts about life and technology. It is a great introductory tool for our teachers. It covers many educational areas such as Science, Technology, Social Studies, English, Maths, Health, Arts and Music.

  1. Encyclopedia Britannica – This is a great online encyclopedia that is widely promoted to the whole school – especially our secondary students. It is updated daily, similar to Wikipedia, but it is much more reliable and credible. We like the fact that students can search as an Elementary, Middle or High School student with appropriate text for the specified age group.
