AISHK's 20-Year Journey in Song and Dance

The Performing Arts Department at AISHK has a long standing reputation for delivering outstanding musicals and events each year. In celebration of the School's 20th Anniversary, the Performing Arts is presenting the 20th Anniversary Performing Arts Showcase, which depicts the journey of AISHK from 1995 until today. The Performance Showcase celebrates 20 years of hardwork, dedication and endeavour of the School community, staff and students.

“The school's 20-year journey will be told through a script involving a unique time machine as our actors travel back in time to discover some of the personalities and events that shaped our school,” says Mr Graeme Tyler, Head of Performing Arts. “The script has been written especially for the showcase and has been developed through research into the school's history. Of course, we have taken a little artistic licence in order to make the presentation fun and entertaining. Along with the music and acting, we also have lots of visuals to show the growth and expansion of the school over time.”

Guests will enjoy a series of performances, including the Orchestra playing a range of pieces including a famous Hollywood piece, the Vocal Ensemble singing a Billy Joel song and excerpts from the popular musical 'Wicked'. The Primary Choir will be singing favourites from the musicals 'Oliver' and 'The Sound of Music'. There will also be a special Clarinet/Piano duo by senior students Chloe Lam and Geraldine Le, and a surprise on-screen item that will be revealed on both days of the showcase. The evening will conclude with a big finale bringing all 150 performers together on stage.

“I hope guests will feel we have celebrated the 20th anniversary in an exciting and dynamic way with lots of great music, memorable visuals and a fun script,” says Graeme. “I think that audience members will also enjoy learning about some of the historical highlights of the school through this entertaining and engaging theatrical experience.”

The Performing Arts at AISHK share the same humble beginnings as the School. From small music ensembles and primary music classes, the Performing Arts has now grown to its three flagship music ensembles – Orchestra, Primary Choir and Vocal Ensemble – along with the Jazz Band, Rock Band, Guitar Ensemble and Junior Choir. Alongside the co-curricular ensembles, the Performing Arts also has a music instrumental teaching program that involves over 160 students learning a variety of instruments and an in-curricula teaching program of Music from Prep through to Year 12 and Drama from Year 9 to 12.

The 20th Anniversary Performance Showcase will be on 17 and 18 June. The event is free, however prior bookings are essential. Please print and fill out the attached booking form and return to the Performing Arts office. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
